This virtual microscopy resource is a online tool designed for meeting the histology and histopathology training needs of veterinary medical students in the profession curriculum as well as veterinarians in post-graduate education programs. The resource is organized by course as well as general subject matter.

Histology is the study of tissue microscopic structure (microscopic anatomy). It should be considered the counterpart to gross anatomy. Both disciplines are fundamental building blocks to the knowledge base of a veterinary practitioner regardless of the career path.

Histology and histopathology (study of abnormal tissue microscopic structure) traditionally utilizes 3-5 micrometer thin sections of tissue placed onto a glass slide to be viewed manually under a light microscope. In recent years, digital microscopy has become a invaluable tool for the study of these tissues. The same glass slides are scanned with a slide scanner and digitized in a manner that allows for navigation of the slide in a very similar manner to traditional examination including multiple magnifications. This system allows for easier access to slide material for students and veterinary residents.
